BASO and SOCA are hosting this event to find a new and creative way to unite our communities. It will allow individuals to showcase their comedic ideas and get closer to one another through shared ideas. Many Caribbean traditions have roots in African culture, due to the influence of enslaved people of African descent. One key element of African culture, which still has remnants in Caribbean tradition, is food. This event would serve the purpose of building a sense of community among students of African and Caribbean descent by demonstrating how similar these backgrounds are. It could also fuel the friendly rivalry over which food is considered more enjoyable. It also facilitates the enjoyment of the differences in cultural foods across diasporas through trivia on historical linkages between Caribbean and African cultures, dance, food, and related activities.
