Partners in Health Engage at Brandeis is proud to present our panel on the state of rural reproductive health. The event consists of a roundtable on barriers, solutions, & narratives surrounding full-spectrum reproductive care in rural communities. Hear from an Academic and Sex Educator, Activist, Legal Scholar, and Rural Nurse-Midwife about the health care barriers experienced by rural populations, the structural origins of reproductive inequity, and what we can do to bridge these gaps. We'll be discussing everything from abortion rights to disaster response in the wake of Hurricane Helene to global narratives surrounding medical aid. This event is open to all members of the Brandeis community who are passionate about reproductive health and want to expand their understanding of a seldom discussed sphere of health inequity- rural health. Events will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, 10/25, consisting of a panel, Q&A session, and reception with Thai food available for all attendees.

Kristen Brewer's profile photo

Kristen Brewer

Academic and Sex Educator

Dr. Brewer has experience in community-building, teaching, and research in the field of sexual and reproductive health education. Her research focuses on perceptions and attitudes regarding barriers to SRH access and education in legislatively restrictive states. This includes aspects such as inclusive sex education, abortion services, and contraceptive access. Dr. Brewer co-founded a grassroots organization, Ruth's Army, in middle Tennessee to help rural communities access SRH services and education. In addition to educational workshops and panels, this led to a partnership with a local women's health clinic to open the REACH Clinic, a no-cost education and reproductive clinic in Clarksville, TN.
