MELA: Abhaya: Embracing our Fearless Spirit

The Brandeis South Asian Student Association is honored to present the 29th annual MELA! We are proud to provide our cultural show as a platform for all South Asians from the ten countries and regions we represent. This year’s theme, ‘Abhaya’, a Sanskrit word that represents fearlessness, is an invitation for the South Asian community to embrace the traditions, identities, and histories that make us who we are. Join us on November 15, 5:30-8 pm, for Abhaya: Embracing our Fearless Spirit.

Abhaya, embodying the essence of "fearlessness,” is a concept that pushes one from mere courage to be free from fear itself. Abhaya represents the fearless spirit within us. Rooted in Sanskrit, Abhaya remains timeless throughout history, serving as a reminder of the strength and courage of our Abhay (Fearless) ancestors. Fearlessness is what allows us to share the traditions of South Asia without hesitation. This year, as SASA embraces Abhaya, we invite every member of our community to step forward with unwavering confidence to celebrate the diverse identity each one of us holds.

As always, we're delighted to welcome all Brandeis students, faculty, and staff at no cost, while community guests are invited to join us for a small fee that directly supports our chosen charitable organization.

As we carry with us twenty-eight years of legacy, we take inspiration from all the journeys, love, and dreams given to us in past MELA’s to move forward. We hope to see you at this year's MELA to embrace our fearless spirit along with us.
